The best way to learn is to read some books. Head over to Amazon and get all the basic books. After that, once you're actually legal, play online at micro-stakes. Whether you think it's fixed or not, you risk a lot less playing 0.05/ 0.1 cents no limit hold'em than you do going to your local casino, where the limits are always 1/ 2+ . If you ever reach a certain level where you're good, read my free report at the address below. It shows how you can get between 80 and 135% rakeback. That number is so high that even if you lose money, you will still win. Being a poker professional is pretty easy when you earn over $5,000 USD in rakeback each month.

Playing with friends and family is way different from playing with other professional poker players. Playing poker is not easy and you will need a large bankroll to handle the variance so you don't go broke. To be become a good player you need lots of experience and not just verse friends and family. Since you are 17 this becomes a lot harder for you. So the only way you can gain experience would be to play online. I would recommend only playing at PokerStars or Full Tilt since these are the most trusted sites. A useful site for you read would be twoplustwo.com. They have a poker forum they might give you pointers and a better feel for what it is really like to be a professional poker player.

There are just so many different things to learn about poker. The best thing you can do is play as much as you can. There is no substitute for experience. Check out some great poker articles here: areyouapokerfish.com/ articles.html
